ASCII is short for 'American Standard Code for Information Interchange'. It is a 7-bit character code with the range 0-127.
The first 32 characters are unprintable control codes / whitespace. Codes 32-127 contain the letters (both uppercase and lowercase), the digits 0-9, and various punctuation marks and symbols.
